Hark the herald angels!Saturday, December 25, 2010
Luke 2:8-11 And they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy for all people. Today in the city of David a savior has been born for you, who is Christ and Lord."
One of the primary causes of this condition is the presence of cataracts, which also cloud vision. Cataract surgery is a relatively routine procedure these days and most who have the surgery are amazed at how clearly they can see afterwards. Many of us may someday need cataract surgery, or have already had it. I want to do whatever it takes to tolerate the glory of the Lord. Christmas morning in Illinois often dawns gray and cold; I want to spend as much time in the angel light as I can before that gray, cold reality sets in. Life as it comes sometimes overwhelms my vision; I need God's light to show me the way. Where am I on Christmas morning? Where is Jesus? Not just listening, but looking for him, I take one step and then another. I trust his directions, which seem to come from my mind but are not my thoughts. This is the first day of twelve days to celebrate Jesus, to congratulate Joseph and Mary on their new baby. To look with all my might for baby Jesus, to find him, and bring him gifts. Hail the heaven-born prince of peace, hail the son of righteousness. Light and life to all you bring, rise with healing in your wings. Mild you lay your glory by, born that man no more may die. Born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth. Hark! The herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn king." |
