Isaiah 30:20-21 BEING lost is a different story. That's a lot tougher. When I get lost I love it for a little while, then I want to get home. Staying lost is really scary. I spend lots of time with people who feel lost. Very afraid they can be. Jesus walked and preached and healed, and felt pity for the crowds who hung on every word. They were "sheep without a shepherd." He stayed for just a little while, and it's tempting to feel "without a shepherd" again. Explorers, politicians, economists, intellectuals and ... well, everybody ... want to know where we are, and the temptation to make up a map to get us home is strong. I know the attraction of silence and of not-knowing. What God asks of me is that I let it be, and just listen for his voice sounding in my ears. With my own eyes, you say, Lord. You don't tell me when. Let me see what you show me and be satisfied. Let me know what you tell me, and be sure. Before me God, behind me God, all around me God. |
