Matthew 15:33-34
The disciples said to Jesus, "Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd of thousands?"

Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?"

Change your intonation and ask that first question a few times:

WHERE could we EVER get enough?

Where COULD we get enough?

Where could WE ever get enough?

Jesus didn't settle for the disciples' rhetorical question, which should have been stated: "We can NEVER get enough ..." It wasn't a question at all.

I do that same thing too often, forgetting the magic and the miracles and the mystery come to earth that God is. In Canaan, the Israelites mumbled on and on for forty years. So do I, unless God brings me up to the light. Grumble, mumble, grmble, mmble, mm, ggrr, ugh. Ug----ly!

We have seven loaves and these few fish, the disciples said. "Well," Jesus replies, "Pass them out." The really cool thing for me about this story, identifying as I do with those disciples, is that they did it. They started passing them out. They shut up and did what he said.

And there was more than enough.

Lord when I obey you, your intelligence shines through me. Lord knows, I want to be smart. Or at least look that way. So teach me to quiet down and wait for you to tell me what to do.
