Safe and smiling in his armsSunday, February 21, 2010
Luke 4:5-8 Jesus said to him in reply," It is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him alone shall you serve.'"
Sugar appeals to Jack. After his dad Chris showed him how to grab handfuls of the cake he really went to work.* It was pretty wonderful to watch him discover "sweet." We shared memories and impressions from his first year. His mother Melissa remembered knowing Jack in the dark by the silhouette of his cowlick as he was brought in to nurse a few hours after he was born. On that first night they had been apart for the first time. "I missed you!" she said, amazed at the power of their connection. Joy. His parents love to share their son. Everyone in the room spent significant time with him this year, touched and being touched by love, soft skin, blue eyes, warm breathing, smiles. This is Jack Titus, one more of God's kids, rising up to live his life on earth. Thank you, Jesus, for not giving way to Satan's wiles. For just a bit longer the world may belong to him ... but we belong to You. You will never let us go.
God, you are my refuge, my very own home. Evil can't get close, harm can't get through the door. You have ordered your angels to guard me wherever I go. When I stumble they'll catch me; their job is to keep me from falling. I will hold on to you for dear life, Lord, and drink your long drink of salvation. --- Psalm 91, The Message |
