Showing up at the end of the rainbowTuesday, December 1, 2009
Luke 10:21 When the leaders of Capernaum rejected him he wept in sadness because they "did not recognize the hour of their visitation." God had brought them face to face with his love, and they turned away. Would they be willing to swallow their pride and turn toward him again? So he tells his disciples to keep moving, to tell everyone their good news. Not everyone will listen. Not everyone will suspend their concepts and suspicion long enough to trust their senses. Little children will. They don't have so much to suspend. They will open their eyes and ears wide and notice quickly that God is showing his love, and they will bask in it. Arthur Janov believed, rightly, that children are often forced to stop crying without being given another way to express their deepest pain and fear. So he practiced "primal therapy," showing adults how to start screaming out their feelings again and re-acquaint themselves with the little child left behind so long ago. Jesus embraces the little boy inside me too, with his smile and invitation. Come to me, let me love you. Why would this little boy do anything else? There is no interference from questions or fear or suspicion or despair. Sure, Jesus. Let's go play! Lord, your flowers choke the barrels of our guns. Your peace is profound and outlasts the moon and stars. When you rescue the poor, they stay rescued. Let your name be blessed forever in every nation under the sun.(Psalm 72) |
