It's Jesus

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Acts 3:11-25
While the beggar held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon's Colonnade. When Peter saw this, he said to them: "Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus ... You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.

"Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have foretold these days. And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers."

We are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant. We can have faith in the name of Jesus. In his name the complete healing I seek and seek for others is available. This has nothing to do with my own power or my own sense of entitlement.

Peter has died to himself and gained the whole world. He has no money, yet he has something everyone else wants. And he knows that what he has is there for everyone staring at him. Jesus' gift is for everyone.

I don't live out this faith every day, but Jesus never leaves me, and his gift is not removed. He waits more patiently than I do. "The fruit of the Spirit is ... patience. Against this there is no law" (Galatians 5).

And in Jesus' quiet presence, his patience I bloom like a daffodil in the sun.

From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise, Lord. You have crowned us with glory and honor. How majestic is your name in all the earth.
