Leaping and laughing

Acts 3:1-8
One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer--at three in the afternoon. Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.

Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, \"Look at us!\" So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, \"Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.\" Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man\'s feet and ankles became strong.

He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.

Children don't ask why; they just get up and walk if they've been healed. But adults don't accept so easily, so they stay lame longer. This guy didn't have a chance to be his usual adult self; the Holy Spirit just lifted him right up. Before he could settle for a few pennies he was given the pearl of great price.

The crippled man probably had very strong arms, which he used to compensate for the atrophied muscles in his useless legs. What kind of throbbing life did he suddenly feel in those legs of his? It had nothing to do with exercise. It happened instantly, without obvious cause.

Healing like this happens today. When it does everyone is tempted to make it into something less than supernatural. Could it be a fake healing? It's happened before.

Ask the guy who's been healed, if you can slow him down long enough. He's laughing and leaping and praising God. He isn't asking questions; he's a little kid again, loved by God and loving him back. He has all the time in the world to be God's son.

I can't wait to sing to you, Lord, and tell of all your wonderful acts, and glory in your holy name. Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
