Whistling windFriday, April 10, 2015
John 21:5-6 Margaret found some worms caught on the concrete after the big rains last night. She scooped them up. We watched the geese fly and honk and swoop through the air inches from each other. "What are they saying to each other?" Margaret asked Aly. The sun was out. The geese were playing. "Duck, duck, goose!" Aly cried. She watched them through our binoculars while we weren't catching fish. We had something to eat. We had made sandwiches, which were eaten long before lunchtime. Unlike the disciples, we didn't spend all night in our boat, and we weren't hungry. But like the disciples, we were willing to do whatever we heard Jesus telling us to do. We listened, like Peter and his friends, as well as we could. We tried a few different spots, we went to Target to look for a princess dress, we met Chris at the mall playground for the little lunch we had left. We came home and took a nap. I went back into Target to retrieve my cool "Keep Austin Weird" water bottle, and it was still there. We were listening, just like the disciples. "Do you love me?" Jesus asked Peter. "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." "Then feed my sheep," Jesus says. How does the saying go? There are many ways to feed a sheep. Jesus' voice whistles through the wind and comes to rest on us, like sunlight in the spring. "Do you love me? Feed my sheep." Yes, Lord, we love you. Thank you for your appearing. You are the Lord, and yours is the darkness and the dawn. You have given us light. This is your day, and we are glad in it. Praise the Lord! We are the sheep in your pasture, and you watch over us. Your presence is all we need, and we can sleep in safety and rise up again in joy. |
