But they were startled and terrified and thought they were seeing a ghost. He showed them his hands and his feet. While they were still incredulous with joy he asked them, "Have you anything to eat?" They gave him a piece of baked fish. He took it and ate it in front of them. Cleopas and Mary came back from Emmaus. Cleopas had given up all hope, and now he's a changed man. We're all changing! We felt like ghosts and now we're looking around and seeing real men and women with sparkle in their eyes. We are laughing. Jesus is alive! He eats with us again. Then he disappears. He tells us not to be afraid, and then he invites us to touch him and put our fingers in his wounds. "Peace be with you," he says. He smiles his wonderful smile. And we know even as he leaves that he will return. Jesus is relaxed and we are on top of the world. He helps us understand the Scriptures, and how we are their fulfillment. We follow Jesus, and teach what he taught, and do what he did. And he says what we do will be greater things than he did. And I am beginning to believe him! Most of us are fishermen. "I will make you fishers of men." We begin to see that Jesus means what he says. He always did. But now my ears are getting unplugged. He believed in me. I begin to believe in myself. We feed him baked fish, and he feeds us his body. We give him a bit of wine, and he gives us living water. Isn't it true that Jesus was crucified, died and was buried just a few days ago? He was wounded, beaten, broken and bruised. He reminds us of Isaiah's words, "bruised for our iniquities." The scroll goes on, "The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." Jesus looks around with his wondrous smile, eyes compassionate and knowing us better than we know ourselves, and I see how true it is. Today those words are fulfilled in our hearing. Loved like this, we can love more and more and more. Lord, you are glorious. Your name is known over all the earth. You make us all your brothers, and invite us in to the banqueting table. Your banner over me is love. We sing for joy. "; Add      Edit    Delete
